  Appraiser licensing requirements:
Becoming an appraiser involves a minimum of 2,500 hours of supervised experience in addition to the educational requirements. Students intending to become appraisers should plan on a 2-4 year commitment in order to achieve the minimum requirements.
 
       
 

State Provisional Licensed Appraiser requirements:

  1. Successfully complete 75 hours of education, including at least 30 hours of real estate appraisal and 15 hours Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP).
  2. Be under the supervision of a certified appraiser. Practice limited to types of properties and transactions for which supervising appraiser is qualified. Refer to http://www.dcp.state.ct.us/licensing for required hours.
  3. Successfully complete 28 hours of continuing education every 2 years, including 3 hours on - Appraisal Law & Regulations, and USPAP.
  4. Submit appropriate license fees and applications.

State Certified Residential Appraiser requirements prior to January 1, 2008:

  1. Successfully complete 120 hours of education (this includes your 75 hours as indicated above).
  2. Successfully completed 2,500 hours of experience over at least 2 years.
  3. Successfully complete 28 hours of continuing education every 2 years, including 3 hours on-CT Appraisal Law Update, & 7 hours on National USPAP Update.
  4. Successfully complete Residential Appraiser Examination.
  5. Submit appropriate license fees and applications.

Important changes to Appraiser Qualifications by the Appraisal Foundation effective January 1, 2008:
Requirements for education will change from 120 hours to 200 hours. In addition to the 200 hours of appraisal education candidates for residential certification must have at least twenty-one semester credit hours in specific topic areas from an accredited college or university. In lieu of the twenty one semester credit hours, an Associate degree (or higher) will qualify.
