NVCC Dance Department
Offers Courses for Connecticut Dance Certification K-12

As one of the original members of Connecticut’s Dance Education Committee, Elena Rusnak would like to make you aware of the opportunities Naugatuck Valley Community College dance courses offer you to fulfill the requirements for Connecticut’s proposed dance certification K-12. NVCC ‘s dance programs are unique in the state—we are the only public higher education institution that offers a degree in Visual and Performing Arts/Dance. And we are affordable, accessible (at the junction of RT 84 and RT 8 in Waterbury), and accredited (New England Association of Schools and Colleges). As the Dance Coordinator and Arts Department Chair at Naugatuck Valley Community College, past Dance Chair at Hartford’s arts magnet school, the dance consultant for Waterbury’s new arts magnet school, a 7-12 CT certified teacher, choreographer and performer, Elena would like to be a resource for you as you explore your options in dance education. We are committed to dance education! We are here to help you follow your dream!

Students who are registered for credit courses or community participants who are registered through continuing education belong to the Terpsichoreans. Terpsichore, the Greek goddess of dance, is one of the nine muses in Greek mythology whose sole purpose is to perpetuate and cultivate the Fine Arts. The goal of the club, which was formed in 1993, is to provide students with opportunities to explore a variety of dance genres. The club sponsors master classes, takes trips to dance concerts and is active in the College's Arts and Humanities and Student Activities productions.
