The Athletic and Recreation Program at Naugatuck Valley Community College is designed to meet the lifetime needs of the individual as student and person.  Courses develop the basic skills and methodologies required for good physical and mental health.  Courses have been recognized for transfer credit to four-year institutions.

Our philosophy of physical development includes intercollegiate and recreational sports programs.  These are a part of a network of services to meet the interest of a very diverse local student body in terms of sex, age and interests in our local service area.  Students are able to further their educational plans and enhance their athletics experience and goals.  Towards this end, the college promotes the concept of good sportsmanship, teamwork and expects that its students embrace these ides.  Interest and budget determine the scope of athletic s and recreational sports activities.  A base budget is provided.  Participants are encouraged to raise funds as needed as provided under college policies and guidelines.  If students wish to develop a club sport, they may do so throughout the Student Senate.

Athletics and recreation sports are provided to meet the leisure time needs of students.  The college provides programs with the intent to appeal to a vast majority of the Naugatuck Valley Community College population.  Recreational sports are provided at a lower level of intensity and based on student interest and participation and vary from year to year.  Intercollegiate athletics are intended to develop those students who wish to compete between and among other colleges.
