The Glacier Ridge Trail was opened in August
1998
after a year, and more than 400 man-hours, of work. The building of the trail was
organized and implemented by Boy Scout
Daniel Cavallari, who was working his way toward his Eagle Scout Rank - the
highest rank in scouting. The community service project was the
final step of the long and difficult process that boys go through on
their way to Eagle.
The
trail, which was named after research indicated that glacial
movement had caused many of the rock formations on the land,
consists of two sections: the yellow-blazed trail, which loops
through the woods for approximately 1.5 miles, and the less
strenuous red-blazed trail, which loops for approximately .75
miles. Trash
removal, construction of bridges, benches and trailhead gateway,
construction of rock and log steps, and trail clearing were only a
few of the steps involved in the long and demanding process.
The Trail was
opened to the public (by reservation) in 1999, and a sign marking the trailhead was
put in place. In the year 2000, maintenance of and publicity for
the trail was handed over to Rob Sibley, the Coordinator of
Outdoor Adventures. |
