Boating Safety

CT Basic Boating/Personal Watercraft

Full Day Option
Connecticut State law requires boaters to obtain a Safe Boating Certificate to operate on CT waters and all operators of personal watercraft to obtain a certificate of Personal Watercraft Operation. Your state certification test is administered at the end of the course. This course is certified by the National Association of Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) and is U.S. Coast Guard approved.

Coastal Navigation
Designed for age 14 and Older

Full Day Option
Take your boating knowledge to a higher skill level with a course on piloting and navigation. Acquire the skills and confidence needed to successfully pilot a boat. Learn how to read longitude and latitude, how to use a compass, the proper use of plotting tools, distance and speed calculations, and more. You will be provided with the necessary study materials and training charts. Each student will need to bring a parallel ruler, dividers, sharp pencil, and a battery-operated calculator. This course is certified by the National Association of Boating Law Administration (NASBLA) and is U.S. Coast Guard approved.

Connecticut Basic Boating Certificate
Including Personal Watercraft

Learn basic boating skills and safety techniques. A Department of Environmental Protection Safe Boating Diploma will be issued upon successful completion of this course. This diploma, along with the additional requirements of DEP, will qualify you for a required Connecticut Safe Boating Certificate. Call the DEP at (860) 434-8638, if you need additional information. This course is certified by the National Association of Boating Law Administration (NASBLA) and is U.S. Coast Guard approved. The following sections are taught by DEP certified volunteers.
